Hitachi Renew AORA Gold Membership

Further to its recent sponsorship of the AORA National Conference Gala dinner, Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) recently renewed their Gold Sponsorship for an additional 12 months. HCA General Manager for Construction and Forestry Sales, Frank Gili said, “We are delighted to continue our involvement with AORA. At Hitachi we strongly believe that it is important to support associations that directly support our direct customer-base.”

HCA markets Hitachi Excavators, from 1.7 tonnes to over 800 tonnes for mining application. They also offer a comprehensive range of Hitachi and John Deere branded wheel loaders.

AORA has been appointed to the National Food Waste Strategy Advisory Group (NFWS). The Federal Government has established this body to identify policies and strategies to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030.
The strategy will follow the waste hierarchy model but clearly sees recycling for beneficial reuse as a critical element in achieving the goal.
The Department of the Environment and Energy will host the National Food Waste Summit on 20 November 2017 as first key activity of the process. We will keep you advised of developments.
Dr Mick Battam talks soil science and his recent WLRM sports ground recycled organics project. 

In 2015 Dr Mick Battam successfully applied for the Waste Less Recycle More grant on a project that has seen him advising on 408 sporting fields around NSW. Working closely with local Football associations, Dr Battam and his experienced team’s key objectives were to provide advice on how to amend fields so they can handle sport wear and tear. The results varied all over the state, some fields were in reasonable condition while others were barely playable.

Dr Paul Lamble discusses the important role organics recycling must play in future development and the issues the indsutry is facing.  

Dr Paul Lamble has over 15 years experience in the water efficiency industry. This experience encompasses local, and state government as well as private consulting work. Previously he was Senior Sustainable Living Officer (Water Programs) with Lake Macquarie City Council, which involved “environmental sustainability, water efficiency and water management”. 

 Dr Lamble’s work has seen the completion of many projects and ongoing management of sports grounds and landscapes that required the use of recycled organics, soil/compost blends and different strategies used to rehabilitate or simply maintain soil and increase water efficiency.

News from South Australia: AORA Site Visit

On Friday the12th of May a bus tour of about 25 attendees from the Australian Organics Recycling Association (AORA) National Conference visited our vineyard to explore how we deal with issues that are more than pest and disease and growing quality grapes. 

The group was a mixture of farmers, growers, organic recyclers, composters, agronomists, microbiologists. This was day three of the conference and the attendees were touring with the principal owner of Peat Soils, Peter Wadewitz, Peat Soils sales support & marketing representative Luke Harding and sales manager Trent Milford.
